Streets book, twenty years later

These are just a few images from the book 'Streets' that I shot and published twenty years ago this month. I spent a year shooting and interviewing young homeless people on the streets of london against a white background. I managed to get sponsorship to do an exhibition and publish a book. The project was backed by homelessness charity Shelter and  design was by Sea Design. Due to Government inaction the problems of homelessness for people of all ages and backgrounds have grown even more acute over the last twenty years.

Brazil for Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine

Last month I spent two weeks in Brazil shooting a story for Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine.  Starting off with five days in Rio,The first objective was to shoot the huge statue of Christ the Redeemer for the cover of the magazine. We took the door off the helicopter and I was strapped in with my feet dangling out as we ascended to get the best view looking out over the beaches of Rio and beyond. Over the following days I shot the vibrant beach life of Rio and then travelled further afield to capture the arts scene of colonial Tiradentes, the beautiful beaches of Isla Grande, a national park, and finally an ecological reserve.

Six images nominated in the Masters Cup Awards 2011

 I was really happy to find earlier this week that six of my images were nominated over three categories in the Photography Masters Cup 2011.The Masters Cup is one of the leading international awards honoring color photography and it’s jury is selected from the likes of Esquire, Taschen, Weiden+Kennedy, Phaidon and Vogue. The Falkland Islands for Lonely Planet magazine

Overseas travel is a regular feature of my work with advertising and corporate clients. More recently I have been traveling to some fabulous places for editorial clients as well. One such commission was a trip to the Falklands for the current issue of Lonely Planet magazine where I shot the beautiful landscape, people and wildlife of these far way Islands. An encounter with some proud penguins was used as the opening spread for the story.

 

AOP 2011 awards success

Got some great news yesterday, I was voted best in category at the AOP 2011 awards  for my non commissioned project on the The Sri Lankan Special Boat Squadron.

Aop Awards 2011 finalist

I have just found out that my Sri Lanka special boat squadron project has won a place at the  AOP awards exhibition and in the awards book 2011. I’m well pleased! This years awards exhibition/presentation and party will take place on wednesday 28th September. Best in catagory awards will be announced then.
