Street cast Ubuntu shoot

Ubuntu is a fast, secure and easy to use computer operating system used by millions of people around the world. I was commissioned by Ubuntu One, Canonical's personal cloud service, to shoot an image library for them. The brief was to create fun and vibrant images that showed real people enjoying their services across different devices. The client specified that models (randomly found people) and situations should be completely street cast and shot immediately where they were found. The only addition to the scenarios were laptop, phone or tablet. No hair/make-up or stylist were used in the guerilla style shoot. Photographed over a day and a half during great sunny weather, here are some of the images.

New York heat wave

I’m just back from a trip to New York where temperatures reached 42 degrees C, an all time record for the City. New Yorkers had been suffering the customary summer heat and humidity for a number weeks before last Fridays record temperatures. Below are some portraits of people looking pensive in the heat.

Rajasthan

In march I travelled to Rajasthan to shoot some of its magical cities.I timed the trip to coincide with the festival of Holi, a  religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus. Masses of people partake in the fun by throwing colored powder and water at each other. I was also lucky enough to be in Jaipur for the elephant festival.

Sad news from Marrakech

Last Thursday I was shocked to hear that  a terrorist bomb had killed 13 people in the Café Argana in Marrakech. I was on assignment shooting a travel story in the city two weeks ago and had coffee in café Argana every day during my stay. My thoughts have been with both travelers and locals affected by this terrible event.

Made by Survivors

Last Friday I worked with my mate  Susie Coulthard and a bunch of other good souls on a shoot for the charity Made by Survivors. Susie is a hugely talented stylist involved in raising funds to help victims of sex trafficking in India. We set up a portable studio in Hackney’s London Fields and cajoled and teased one hundred people to model a t shirt designed by Susie to raise funds for the charity. These are early days in the project so I will post more news as things develop. Special thanks to Shaima el Nour  and David George for their amazing help in setting up and co-ordinating the shoot on the day. Also big thanks to Calumet and the Pro Centre for their help with lighting. Here are a small selection from the one hundred images I shot on Friday.

Marrakech tomorrow

I’m pretty excited about  departing for a commissioned trip to Marrakech tomorrow and have just finished checking and packing camera equipment. The travel story will focus on life around
Jemaa el Fna, the main square and market place of the city. Here are some images I took last October on another trip to this beguiling city. I shall post images from the new shoot soon.

Rio Carnival floats

This weekend sees the biggest party in the world kick off in Rio de Janeiro. Rio Carnival is a wild 4 day celebration culminating in  the samba parade. The carnival floats are an essential element of the parades and when the party finishes they are taken and stored in warehouses so that the parts can cannibalized for the creation of new floats in later years. Last year whilst shooting an Ad in Brazil I came across the warehouses when I was exploring some of more dodgy parts of Rio. Images from this project can be seen below.
